SILKSTONE is to lose a total of nine rubbish bins as part of a Barnsley Council waste management review.

But the tally is less than parish councillors were expecting.

At Monday’s meeting of the council, vice-chairman Richard Leech reported on a meeting with Barnsley Council officials at which they were given the number of bins which are to go.

“We had thought it might be more than nine,” said Coun Leech. Any dog bin within 20 metres of a normal bin will be lost.

Also, bins are now to be numbered to make it easier to pinpoint locations in the event of problems.

“So it should improve the service,” said Coun Leech, adding that more effort is needed to inform people that bins can be used for all purposes including dog waste.
