The Barnsley Bus Partnership, made up of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, Barnsley Council and bus companies, have announced a series of proposed cuts which would leave some communities with no buses at all and others without direct links to Barnsley.

Penistone would lose its direct bus to Barnsley Hospital and services to Holmfirth would also be affected by the changes.

Now councillors on Penistone Area Council, which is made up of Barnsley councillors local to the area, have started discussions about a volunteer car scheme which Coun Paul Hand-Davis, who is also Penistone Mayor, believes could work in the area.
