WORK to convert a former caretaker’s house at a Barnsley primary school is nearing completion thanks to help from volunteers.

Many in the community have helped restore the house at Oakhill Primary so it can be used by the school and the community as a learning space, and Tesco has supported the project.

Lisa Hammond, Tesco’s community champion for Barnsley, said: “We have come a long way, with local businesses being overwhelmingly generous by donating time and materials completely free of charge including a free boiler, pipe work and fittings, roofing work, electrical work, plastering and materials, gardening equipment and paint donated, huge discount on the kitchen and many hours of volunteers time to paint, clean and carry out gardening.
