DARFIELD memorial has had some much needed TLC thanks to the work of volunteers.

Working alongside the South Area Tidy Team and members of the Scouts, local residents got stuck into making the Church Street memorial site a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives in war.

The work was carried out as part of the Great British Clean Up movement and involved much more than just cleaning up litter.

Coun Dorothy Coates said: “We had a great morning with the Tidy Team working alongside local volunteers. Local residents and Scouts bagged rubbish, cut back bushes, shrubs and plants and swept paths.

“They did a great job and future events will be planned.”

Coun Pauline Markham said plans to apply for a grant to renovate the area are in motion.

Coun Markham said: “We are trying to make it a nice area, tidy and somewhere people would choose to go relax and reflect.”
