A 'walking football' scheme was launched at Oakwell this week.

It is part of the Fit Reds healthy lifestyle programme aimed at men aged 35 and over and the main rule is no running, though the usual five-a-side rules apply.

The scheme is supported by the British Heart Foundation, Barnsley public health and Personal Shaped Support (PSS).

Lee Thompson, project co-ordinator, said walking football was becoming more popular and more widely available - partly because people are living longer and appropriate activities are needed.

The scheme launched on Wednesday, and is from 10.30am to 12.30pm. It is led by qualified instructors.
