HELP on staying warm this winter is on hand at a special awareness day next week.

Barnsley Council’s housing and energy team will be at the Barnsley Market’s meat and fish entrance and in the Better Barnsley shop on Cheapside from 10am until 1pm on Friday.

They will provide guidance on switching energy suppliers, saving money on bills, staying warm and well in the cold weather and how you can get the best deal on home energy efficiency works.

Other organisations such as Age UK Barnsley, Barnsley Stay Put and Berneslai Homes will also be on hand.

The event is being held to highlight Fuel Poverty Awareness Day.

Coun Roy Miller said: “If you live in Barnsley we would love you to come along to the event next Friday with your latest energy bills. We will be able to see much money you could save by switching energy suppliers and offer advice on replacing an old boiler or improving insulation.

“Whether you are struggling to keep your home warm during this extremely cold weather or just want to see if you can save money, our Housing and Energy team will be able to help.”

National Energy Action is a charity dedicated to ending fuel poverty.

Representative Maria Wardrobe said: “Fuel poverty is a serious problem and one that we cannot tackle alone. I am delighted that Barnsley Council is supporting the campaign and helping to ensure that residents can live warmer, healthier and happier lives.”
