SHAME on you Barnsley Council' came the cries as plans were passed for a renewable energy waste centre to which more than 400 people had objected.

Revised plans by development giant Peel Environmental for a £65 million renewable energy centre at the former Houghton Main Colliery site, off Park Spring Road, were approved on Tuesday.

The decision came down to the wire with eight councillors voting in favour and six against.

The go-ahead was met with anger from objectors in the public gallery.
