A BUSINESSMAN who wants to create a £2 million waterpark to rival Wakefield’s Pugneys is suing Barnsley Council over the canal which regularly floods the site.
Wayne Hadfield says he wants to create a new lake between the Barnsley Canal and the River Dearne on his land near Woodstock Road at Wilthorpe.
He believes his proposed lake would help prevent flooding down river, such as at Lundwood and Darfield.
Wayne’s land - which has been in the family for generations - stretches from Smithies to Darton and he rents a large proportion of it to people who keep horses, but vast areas cannot be used for several months of the year.
