WASTE paper can now be put in the blue recycling bin doing away with the need for the infamous ‘white sack’.

The sacks for paper only proved unpopular when they were introduced a few years ago as they tended to blow away and get wet and soggy when left outside. They were also very heavy when full.

The changes came into effect this week and mean that paper and cardboard can both be mixed together in the bin which was previously for cardboard only.

The change is possible because the council has switched a contract for recycling to a firm which accepts paper and cardboard mixed together, where previously they had to be separated.
