A MAN who has raised more than £19,000 for a cancer charity said all he wants to do is give something back.

Duncan Owen-Elmer, 65, has spent the last few years raising money for Macmillan the charity he said couldn’t do enough for his family.

Duncan, of Barugh Green, said: “Macmillan is really close to my heart. My wife passed away with cancer

and to be really honest the nurses couldn’t do enough for my wife and my family.

“They ran around after us and constantly made sure we were OK.

“Even after my wife passed away, they were there for me afterwards with counselling.”

Duncan was nominated in the charity fundraiser category in the Proud of Barnsley awards 2018. He has given up more than 300 hours of his time to raise almost £20,000 for the charity.

He said: “It was a pleasant surprise to be nominated, and I’m very pleased and grateful.”

Even though the weather is getting colder, Duncan said that will not stop him.

He said: “I get the bus everywhere. I collect in supermarkets, basically wherever they will let me do it. I’ve got a full month in December.

“I always get asked why I do it, but the reason is I just want to know that I have given back everything I could to the nurses that helped my wife, myself and my family.”
