It has been a busy week for A level student Jasmine Mokrysz.

The 17-year-old has been sitting seven exams whilst preparing to fight for the Miss England crown.

The Penistone Grammar student has already made it to the semi-finals of the Miss England contest in London this weekend, but she needs the votes of local people to make it to the final.

Jasmine, from Mitchell Street, Swaithe, wants to study law and become a barrister and says she entered the competition after seeing a post on Facebook.

As well as staging a series of fundraising events, tackling a fitness test, shooting a talent video and creating an eco outfit, she has managed her school revision.

Mum Gaynor said: "The days of beauty queens simply parading around in swimwear are long gone. The organisers take the theme of beauty with a purpose very seriously indeed.

"So she has been fundraising, keeping fit, designing and making the recycled outfit and studying for her exams all at the same time."

Jasmine is certainly not just a pretty face - she has 14 GCSEs and is studying for chemistry, history, English and politics A levels.

Voting closes at midnight tomorrow night, to vote for Jasmine call 0901 307 1027 and when prompted vote for number 63.
