Sam Winnall netted the first two goals Barnsley maintained their 100 per cent winning record in pre-season games this summer with a 3-1 success at Cheltenham on Tuesday.

Winnall scored twice towards the end of the first half then, after the hosts pulled one back late on, Shaun Tuton secured the victory.

Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies was called into action first as he denied Asa Hall one-on-one following a mistake by Marc Roberts then tipped over a powerful long range strike by James Rowe.

At the other end, Hall cleared off the line from a Marley Watkins header then Tom Bradshaw shot just wide from within the box before Winnall was denied by the home goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

Winnall eventually got his goal on 35 minutes when, standing near the line, he nudged in Josh Scowen's shot from the edge of the area after goalkeeper Jack Rose punched a Conor Hourihane corner.

Winnall's second goal, ten minutes later on the stroke of half-time, was another tap-in from a couple of yards out. Hammill ran into the box then the ball broke to Marley Watkins who kept the move alive before it trickled to Winnall to finish.

In the second half, Hammill produced a brilliant turn before advancing into the box and shooting low but his effort was tipped wide by Rose.

Dan Holman pulled one back on 83 minutes when he beat Alfie Mawson to the ball and finished well. It was the first time the Reds have conceded this pre-season.

Substitute Tuton replied four minutes later as he ran onto a long ball and finished well across the goalkeeper from the left of the box.
