Barnsley boxers ensured it was a night to remember by claiming points victories in English title fights on Saturday night.

Brampton's Josh Wale, 28, won the vacant bantamweight belt whilst Robbie Barrett, 25, from Darfield, kept hold of his lightweight crown at a packed out Doncaster Dome.

Both men had to wait for confirmation from the judges but had done enough to win the belts.

Headlining, Wale defeated Hayes' tricky battler Ramesh Ahmadi on a split decision over ten rounds.

Judges Dave Parris (98-93), John Latham (97-94) gave it Wale whilst Mark Lyson (96-95) went the other way.

Wale had blatantly done enough in the bruising contest which he dominated from round three onwards.

Ahmadi finished strongly with Wale cut above the eye but Wale had already done the hard work and ensured the belt was going home with him at the third time of asking.

Barrett defended his belt against Kevin Hooper with relative ease.

The southpaw took the decision unanimously with scores of 97-93, 99-92 and 98-92.

Grimsby's Hooper could not get to grips with Barrett's superior movement and jab and even when he tried to make the contest scrappy he was being beaten to the punch on the inside by Barrett.

Also on the show, Shafton's Andy Townend, 27, gained a four round win over Liam Richards.

Townend won every round against Wiltshire's slippery Richards.
