A man was left seriously injured after colliding with a car and falling off his motorbike in Wath.

The 24-year-old was riding his red Honda motorbike along Cutts Avenue on Tuesday and was negotiating a right-hand bend towards Cemetery Road.

Police said a silver Vauxhall Corsa, being driven by a 74-year-old man, was travelling in the opposite direction and moved out into the centre of the road to avoid minor road works.

The front of the motorbike collided with the wing mirror of the car, the rider lost control of the bike and left the road, hitting a brick wall and a gate of a nearby house before landing in a garden.

The rider suffered serious leg injuries and is being treated at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The car driver, also from Wath, was not injured.

Anyone who saw the collision or the manner of driving prior to it should contact South Yorkshire Police 101 quoting incident number 609 of 9 July.
