A GRATEFUL woman is appealing to find the man who found her purse after it fell out of her bag at Cortonwood on Monday.

Josy Murphy, 72, and her ex-Barnsley defender husband Barry Murphy, 79, returned to their car after shopping in Cortonwood when a man approached the couple and asked if they had lost anything. Upon searching her bag, Josy discovered that her purse had fallen out of her bag.

“I hadn’t noticed my purse had gone because I didn’t buy anything and I had no idea I’d dropped it,” said Josy, of Rosedale Gardens, Barnsley.

“The man said he had arrived and had seen my purse on the floor by the car and had waited over half an hour until we got back to the car to return it. He said he was on the verge of giving up when we arrived back at the car.

“I don’t know what made us come back to the car, we were happily shopping, but something made us return and I’m so glad we did. It could have been totally different if someone else had picked up my purse or if we had got home and realised it was gone.”

The good samaritan who found Josy’s purse was a man named Terry from Wombwell.

“We had a lovely chat with Terry when he found my purse, and he and my husband were chatting about football for a fair bit.

“I just can’t believe there are people like this in the world. I am so grateful for what Terry did and I would have been so worried when I got home and found out my purse was missing, it has definitely saved us a lot of stress.”
