A WOMAN who retaliated to being bitten by a dog by brandishing a large kitchen knife has been given a nine-month community order - and a fine of just £5.

Victoria Hallam, of Queens Way, Hoyland, was reported for being in a public place with a blade in Elsecar on August 19.

The 39-year-old appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where it was said that Hallam had returned to the house where she was attacked by a dog the day before. The court was told Hallam, who had taken crack cocaine prior to the incident, had the knife on her to protect herself from a repeat occurrence.

As part of the order, Hallam will have to carry out a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement, pay costs of £85, an £85 victim surcharge and a £5 fine.
