A WOMAN was rescued by firefighters and treated in hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire blamed on an accident with a tea light candle in Oxspring.

Firefigthters were called to an address in Sheffield Road just before lunchtime last Friday after a tea light left burning in the kitchen apparently set alight some plastic flowers in a vase.

They arrived to find an occupant collapsed in the kitchen and they administered oxygen as a first aid measure before she was taken to hospital, where she was detained for several hours to be treated for inhaling smoke.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was small and was extinguished with a glass of water.

There was minimal damage to the house and that has since been repaired.
