A TIMELY renovation of Wombwell Operatic Society has taken place and a grand reopening will be staged in celebration next month.
Around £20,000 has been saved up entirely by the amateur organisation, based on George Street, to pay for building work to be carried out and to allow the outfit to become 'more professional'.
A new area for keeping props and costumes in has been created upstairs, while the actors will also have dressing rooms and a new make-up area.
The money has been raised by the society alone over the last few years when a conscious decision was made to modernise and make their five productions of the year run more smoothly.
The Society will reopen in September with a series of events.
The grand reopening itself is set for September 13 where there will be various stalls and a display of old pictures.
A week later, a special memories concert will be held in tribute to former members of the society who have recently died.
Julia Fellows, Dennis Gent and Harry Steele put in around 100 years service between them and they along with others will be remembered with some of their favourite music played.
