RESIDENTS of a Wombwell street have been asked to pay up to £1,200 for access to their own driveways as the council removes illegal kerbside ramps as part of road resurfacing.

Barnsley Council informed residents on Kingsway earlier this year that resurfacing work will be taking place on their street.

As part of the work, illegal ramps made from materials such as concrete and hardcore will be removed, and residents who wanted to have the kerbs outside their homes lowered would have to pay a discounted rate of £120 per kerb stone for the work doing.

Residents have received letters from the council informing them that the resurfacing work will begin on October 15 and residents who want their kerb stones lowering would be able to pay for it over three months.
