ON WEDNESDAY the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team was called out to a lady that had taken a serious fall in Middle Black Clough just off Woodhead Pass.

The incident rapidly escalated into a large multi-agency rescue with Glossop Mountain Rescue Team called to assist, Northwest Ambulance Service, North West Air Ambulance and the Maritime Coastguard Agency were also in attendance.

“Given the location of the casualty and the difficulty of a technical rope rescue a request was made to the Maritime Coastguard Agency to winch the casualty directly from the location of the incident,” a spokesman said.

The lady was winched from the site of the accident to the top of the hillside where she was carried a short distance by stretcher to the waiting North West Air Ambulance for onward travel to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for further treatment.
