Jacob Brown is fit to play for Barnsley against Leeds United on Sunday with Cauley Woodrow and Alex Mowatt also likely to return.
The Reds had eight first team players out injured for the 0-0 draw at Wigan Athletic before the international break, in which Ben Williams was sent off so is now serving a three-match ban.
Winger Brown has not featured this season due to a hamstring injury which he picked up against Blackpool in April. Head coach Daniel Stendel told the Chronicle: “He has been training for the last two weeks and he is fit now.
“When we look at the first six games, we needed a player like Jacob. He can push the team with his mentality and his power. I’m happy he’s back. It’s a big part of our style that is back. His attitude is a big influence on the other players, you can see that in training.”
Star striker Woodrow, who scored 19 goals in the promotion season, opened his account this campaign with a spectacular strike against Charlton Athletic on August 17 but hurt his calf later in that game and has missed the last three fixtures. Central midfielder Mowatt sat out the trip to Wigan with a neck problem. Stendel said: “Cauley and Alex have trained since Tuesday and I am optimistic that they can play against Leeds.”
Midfielder McGeehan also missed Wigan as did central defender Bambo Diaby who injured his ankle in the 3-1 home defeat to Luton Town on August 24.
Stendel said: “They haven’t trained so I cannot really say yes or no that they will play on Sunday but we will try everything to get them in the squad. For Bambo, the chance is not so high.”
Right-back Jordan Williams is yet to appear in the Championship after finishing the League One campaign as the first choice. He was on the bench at Wigan after struggling with a hip problem in pre-season. Stendel said: “Jordan is back. He played well at the end of last season and we expect a lot of him this season.”
Central midfielder Kenny Dougall has been out since March when he fractured his leg at Doncaster Rovers. Stendel said: “Kenny is closer to playing and he has joined in parts of training with the team. But he still needs some weeks until he can play.”
Goalkeeper Sami Radlinger is expected to be out until December with a knee injury, so Brad Collins is set to make his home league debut for the club against Leeds having kept a clean sheet at Wigan.
