WORK to convert a derelict pub into a new Co-op convenience store could start as soon as next month if plans are given the go-ahead by Barnsley Council.

The Brook Group - the developer behind the town centre’s Gateway Plaza development - applied for planning permission last August to convert the Bush Inn on Keresforth Hill Road, Barnsley.

Jason Brook confirmed this week the plans were still on track but there had been a delay because the development will require more electrical power than is available at the site so some additional utility infrastructure work is required.

Some preparatory work has been carried out this week.

“It will start in earnest on site in May and is about a 14 week programme,” said Jason.

“This is subject of course to planning approval, which we are hoping for shortly now that the additional issue has been resolved.”
