WORK has started on a new health centre on the outskirts of Barnsley town centre.

It is being constructed at Burleigh Street and will see patients from the Park Grove and Cope Street surgeries relocate to the new location.

The new practice will be located in-between the two current sites near the Alhambra roundabout, and will have access for pedestrians and onsite car parking.

Dr Chikthimmah, the GP leading the project, added: “It’s exciting to see the work finally begin on the site of the new medical centre. We’ve had a little snow this week, but it hasn’t deterred the contractors from breaking the ground and making a start on the building’s foundations.

“This exciting project, which has been many years in the making, will be a huge boost for the people of Barnsley. Many organisations have worked very hard to bring our vision into reality and this centre will be a great place for our patients and staff.”

The new medical centre will be opening its doors to patients in November 2018.

It has been developed in partnership with Dr Bridger and Partners, Auburn and Ainsley, P and HS Architects, and Tolent Construction.
