Work is now underway on the rail line to link Elsecar and Cortonwood.

The line is being restored and will be reopened for the first time in 30 years, as part of Elsecar Heritage Railway's project to develop the Coalfields line as a nationally important steam railway.

The line once linked the old Elsecar Main and Cortonwood collieries, and the project to restore it and create a Cortonwood coal mining memorial park was last year awarded £50,000 from the People's Millions Big Lottery Fund.
