WORK has started on a development which will see the council build houses to sell.

The Blenheim View development on the former Longcar site will be delivered by Met Homes Barnsley, a trading name of Barnsley Council.

The launch saw representatives from the council, NPS Barnsley, Berneslai Homes, Saul Construction and Haybrook in attendance.

The new development will provide 32 high-quality homes: 28 will be private properties for sale via Haybrook. The remaining four properties will be going to Berneslai Homes to let at an affordable rent. The houses are a mix of two, three and four bed family homes.

The site will help complement the ongoing regeneration activity in and around Barnsley town centre and allow the council to invest in further affordable housing activity.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman, said: “We’re delighted to launch this exciting development working with local partners, agents and contractors.

“The council has big ambitions for housing growth and is investing money into building these homes to create more and better housing in Barnsley. Any surplus money raised from the development will be reinvested into providing extra homes to meet housing need within the borough.

“Blenheim View will provide spacious, high-quality homes right in the heart of Barnsley. Sales are already going exceptionally well for the site, with 15 out of the 32 properties currently sold off plan.”
