Worsbrough Bridge continued their outstanding start to the season with a 2-1 win at Armthorpe Welfare in the first round of the FA Vase.

Having also won five of their six NCEL Division One matches, the third-placed Briggers are now just two victories short of the tally they managed in all of last season. After narrowly avoiding relegation in each of the last three campaigns, manager Lee Morris believes the Worsbrough can look at the other end of the table in 2018/19.

He said: “The club has had a few tough years so it’s nice to put some smiles on the faces of the volunteers and the fans. The lads have worked their socks off, bought into a new style of play and everyone from the tea lady to the chairman is pulling in the same direction. We are getting a few more fans down to watch us which is great.”

Bridge are currently third in the table and Morris is hoping they continue their flying start with two automatic promotion places and four play-off spots available. He said: “We targeted the top ten at the start of the season and we’re not going to set any new targets yet because we’ve only played seven games. We’re in a league with big clubs who are paying a lot of money to their players, but if Leicester can win the Premier League then anything can happen in football.”
