HOLLY Tandy is to headline a town centre Christmas concert organised to replace the Christmas lights switch on which was cancelled due to bad weather.

The festive concert organised by Barnsley Council will take place on Wednesday in the Market Gate car park (formerly the CEAG building).

The gates open at 4.30pm and entertainment kicks off at 5.45pm.

The council said in response to high demand to see Holly at the Christmas lights switch on, the council invited her to perform at the one-off special concert, which includes performances from LA Fox, 2AM, and the cast of Aladdin from The Academy Theatre.

The evening will finish with a spectacular fireworks display at approximately 6.45pm.

Security measures will be in operation, including bag searches on entry, and people are encouraged to bring small bags where possible.

There won’t be any road closures but Market Gate car park and floors five and nine of the Metropolitan Centre multi-storey car park will be closed from 6pm on Tuesday.

Coun Roy Miller said: “We were extremely disappointed to have to cancel the recent Christmas lights switch on due to bad weather, but we are very pleased to announce that Barnsley Council will be hosting a festive concert on Wednesday.

“It will be an evening of fun-filled entertainment with a performance from Barnsley’s very own Holly Tandy. Holly captured the hearts of millions on the recent series of X Factor and it will be great to see her performing to her local fans.”
