AWARD-WINNING museum Experience Barnsley is celebrating its fifth birthday this summer and to mark the occasion the museum held a poster-designing competition with local schools.

The Mayor of Barnsley Coun Jeff Ennis judged the entries and picked Reese Fenton from Cawthorne CE Primary School as the overall winner.

The poster and elements from the design will be used on all Experience Barnsley’s publicity material in the run-up to its birthday on June 27.

Coun Ennis said: “It was a great pleasure to judge the poster competition for Experience Barnsley’s birthday. Reese’s artwork really stood out with its vibrant colours and intricate detail to represent Experience Barnsley.”

Reese’s winning artwork features a birthday cake covered in candles and images representing Experience Barnsley, from the town hall tower to recent exhibitions such as Egypt.

The anniversary falls in the middle of Barnsley’s History Festival, which runs from Saturday June 23 until Saturday June 30. The final day of the festival will mark the annual Barnsley History Day.

It will feature something for all the family including family activities, film shows, special talks, displays and stands where people can discover more about local history.
