A YOUNG Barnsley ice dancer who already has six British titles under his belt will be the ‘underdog’ in his next British championship tournament.

Billy Wilson-French, 15, from Royston, already has 27 gold, three silver and two bronze medals and is hoping to make it more by the end of this weekend.

Alongside his dance partner Lucy Hancock, Billy will take part in the British Championships Junior Ice Dance at Ice Sheffield today and tomorrow.

They will compete in two categories with the hope to make it a podium finish so that the pair can represent Great Britain internationally.

Billy’s mum Natalie said: “He and Lucy are the youngest team there and they are a little like the underdogs in a way as they were five months behind on their training.

“It’s quite exciting because the BBC will be live streaming the event on the BBC app.”

Billy first started skating when he went to a party at IceSheffield and has not stopped since. He gets up at 4am to train before school and spends around

20 hours a week on the ice giving him very little time for a social life.

He has travelled to America to train with top Olympic coaches, been chosen as the first non-permanent cast member to take part in Disney on Ice and earlier on in the year received a Barnsley Young Champions award.
