Barnsley Youth Choir has been invited to sing with some of the best world's best at the World Choir Games in Latvia.
But the children and teenagers from across Barnsley will only be able to go if they can raise about £20,000 needed to get them there.
Musical director Mat Wright said: "It's just amazing to be invited to represent Great Britain. It is a hugely prestigious event.
"To think that our children from Barnsley will be singing with, and competing against the very best choirs in the world, it's just fantastic."
Mat said he had made some enquiries about the festival a few months ago but thought little more about it until he received a letter formally inviting the choir to attend.
"It's a huge honour to be invited.
"There's just the issue of funds now. We think it's going to cost in the region of £20,000.
"We have about 200 children in the children's choir and youth choir combined. We're thinking it will be a group of 50 or so of the older children from the youth choir.
"We've already had a donation of £500 from MP Dan Jarvis, from his own pocket, which is really generous.
"We've had another donation of £500, and there was a collection of nearly £1,000 at the memorial service for our chairman, Keith Norton, and his family was very keen we put that towards this trip.
"So we have £2,000 which is a great start, but there's a long way to go."
