Zeki Fryers has set his sights on securing a run of games in Paul Heckingbottom's starting 11.

The former Manchester United, Tottenham and Crystal Palace left-back has been on the fringes of the squad since his arrival in the summer, but has started three of the last four games. The 25-year-old says he has settled well at Oakwell and wants to push on to help the Reds' young squad.

Fryers said: "It's crazy really as I'm only 25 but I'm one of the oldest. I've been used to being one of the youngest at my previous clubs and usually there are a lot of older players to learn from. But Barnsley's side is youthful, energetic and hungry and they all want to improve. I'm already loving my time here.

"The staff are excellent and the lads are great, but I've struggled for gametime and have been used to playing on the fringes. It has been frustrating but I feel good and am getting stronger having not played for such a long time, so I want to string ten games together. To do that I'll have to keep playing well."

Fryers, who has been coached by Sir Alex Ferguson, Tim Sherwood and Sam Allardyce during his professional career, praised Heckingbottom's style.

"He's not afraid to change his systems and that keeps players on their toes so you can't switch off. He has a direct style and is honest and fearless. Players react well to that. It's what we want as we are confident in the decisions he makes."
