A NEW memorial to stillborn babies has been erected at Wombwell cemetery.

The previous tribute was not deemed big enough and was relatively unknown so Friends of Wombwell Cemetery have been raising funds to upgrade it.

The new tribute also has eight flower pots around it in the colours of pink and blue to represent the 360 stillborn babies buried in cemetery between the 1860s and 1950s.

Member of the group Ray Mangham said: "It was only a small one before so it needed upgrading.

"Nobody really knew about it but now a lot of people are going for a look.

"We're really pleased that we've got it done."
