Barnsley manager David Flitcroft says John Stones is worth £3million and that the Reds would wnat him back on loan for the rest of the season if he left in January.

Barnsley have still not received any bids for England under 19 defender although several Premier League clubs have contacted Oakwell to ask how much he is worth.

Flitcroft said: “£3million might sound pricy but we’re talking about one of the best defenders in English football at the moment. I don’t think the boy is ready to go into the Premiership yet and he would admit the same. If there was a deal out there it would have to favour the club.

“If he does leave, it is important that we can keep him on loan for this season because he is developing. I think the club is realising that some of the valuations out there are disrespectful.

“They don’t need to sell him for an underscore price. While he’s playing and hitting form in the Championship, his price is only going one way.”
