A PENSIONER who fled the town a broken man after masked men made off with his lifesavings after forcing their way in to his bungalow is coming home.
Widower Harvey Clemit, 80, will return to Barnsley in a few weeks after staying with family in Bournemouth following the incident at his Cedar Crescent home on May 19.
Harvey's son Pete Clemit, 45, said: "He is definitely coming back, hopefully in a couple of weeks when we've got things sorted out for him because he doesn't want to go back to that house in Kendray.
"He's decided to return as this is his home and I think everyone's support has helped him with this decision."
Former steel worker Harvey left Barnsley after he was woken by a noise at about 3.50am and went to investigate. As he opened the door, he was met by two men with covered faces who pushed their way in, knocking him backwards.
They demanded money and, after spraying Harvey in the eyes with an unidentified liquid and threatening him, he panicked and handed over life savings of about £1,100.
Harvey, whose wife Molly, 78, died weeks earlier, was shaken by the ordeal and fled his home shortly after, seeking refuge with daughter.
