AFTER three months of renovation, The Singing Man pub in Shafton will re-open as a fish and chip restaurant.

Owner John Helliwell, 60, said the renovation had been a long and expensive one for him and his business partner Gordon Eccles, but they both can't wait to open the restaurant's doors for the first time on Sunday June 30.

He said: "It's took a lot of time and effort to get the place ready for opening, I can't believe it's nearly here.

"To think the other people who were looking to buy the pub wanted to knock it down, it would have been a real shame, it's such a beautiful building.

"I think the people in Shafton need this, there's not much left around here, and we don't need a derelict, unused piece of land.

"Everyone I've spoken to is looking forward to it opening and has wished us well.

"As me and Gordon keep saying to people, as long as we're here, The Singing Man will be too."
