An 11-week-old Pomski pup from Great Houghton has been crowned top dog in Yorkshire's first ever Mad Dog Awards.

A cross between a Pomeranian and a Husky, Lexi won the judges' hearts by displaying all the cute characteristics of her parentage. Her prize was a framed copy of a professional photo and a trophy.

Lexi is owned by Dave Rickett and his partner Donna Hollinshead.

The Mad Dog Awards 2014 was open to entrants from across Yorkshire and took place earlier this month at St Thomas's Community Centre in Gawber.

There were 22 entrants in three categories - puppy, adult and senior, and also an overall winner. Lexi scooped both the puppy and overall categories.

Awards organiser Amy Law, of Amy Law Photography, took photos on the day of the dogs which were printed on the spot.

She said: "It was brilliant. We had people who came to bring their kids to look at the dogs. Lexi was just so cute, and she won on her first day out after her puppy injections."

Winners got framed prints of their pet pooches and runners up got rosettes. The awards were sponsored by Vets4Pets and frames were donated by iframes in Barnsley.

Amy is now planning to expand the awards for next year.
