A teenage singer from Worsbrough Village is in with a chance of winning a trip to Hollywood to work with top music producers.
Lauren Tate, 15, was entered in the Music Immersive contest by her mum Helen who posted a YouTube video of her singing.
The stirring rendition of Janis Joplin's 'Me and Bobby McGee' has attracted more than 6,600 votes meaning she is 23rd in the global contest. The top 25 go through to the judging stage.Kirk Balk pupil Lauren said she was surprised her song was proving so popular.
"It's really weird because none of my friends care about my singing but all these people who are voting have started caring about what I'm doing and it can inspire people."
Lauren, of Priory Close, started singing in primary school assemblies, has had lessons from the age of 11 and hopes to make a career in the industry.
Her YouTube videos have been viewed more than 77,000 times and she has 2,000 followers on Facebook. She hopes they will help keep her in the competition.
"I have a chance of making it to the judges' panel. After that it's down to talent but to get that far would be great."
The support I have had has been amazing. I have people voting for me in Texas, Australia, Russia and Japan, who are even getting their families to vote too. I have met so many nice people through Facebook who want to help me and share my music."
Lauren has been working with Barnsley-based music producer Peter Thompson. She hopes to release a CD of cover songs in the autumn and is working on her own material.
