VICTIMS of an evil rapist and pedophile have reacted with anger and dismay to news that his 18 year sentence has been cut by appeal court judges.

Sex predator Glen Turton blighted the lives of five schoolgirls and left them "ruined" by his abuse.

The 59-year-old from Wombwell, groomed and then raped, assaulted and tormented his innocent victims over a 15-year period. His abused victims ranged in age from an eight-year-old to a 20-year-old.

Turton, of Burrows Grove, Wombwell, plead guilty to all 16 counts when he appeared at Sheffield crown court but he has just challenged his prison sentence, his legal team claiming it was simply "too tough".

Mr Justice Lewis told London's Appeal Court that Turton raped his first victim when she was just 13 and sexually assaulted his second on five occasions.

Mr Justice Lewis, sitting with Lord Justice Davis and Judge Martyn Zeidman QC, said there was no doubt that Turton's crimes '"justified a long custodial sentence".

However, he ruled that 18 years was just too long - and reduced Turton's sentence to 15 years.
