Barnsley manager Danny Wilson has denied that Scott Wiseman's planned move to Preston North End is the start of a clearout of the Reds squad.
Right-back Wiseman looks set to join League One Preston on a free transfer after rejecting their local rivals Blackpool, who play in the Championship, the Chronicle understands.
There could be more departures from the squad assembled over the last three seasons by Keith Hill and David Flitcroft but Wilson, who took over the Reds when they were bottom of the league and has not moved them up the table in five winless games so far, insists there will not be a huge change in personnel.
The Barnsley boss told the Chronicle: "A clearout is not the case. "It would not be practical to do that in the January transfer window with and anyway we have very good players at this football club so I don't need to do that. "I have not told any players that they can leave but every player is available for the right price. "There are one or two players that I definitely want to keep and one or two that I think will definitely go but I don't want to discuss who they are in public."
Wilson has so far brought Stoke's Brek Shea and Liverpool's Ryan McLaughlin in on loan and says there could be more temporary and permanent deals.
"We will be making some more signings and I am looking at every position for loans and permanent deals. What the club has tried so far this season hasn't worked in some areas so we do need to make changes. New players give you a spark and that is what the players need and deserve at the moment. Thankfully I have the support of Mr Cryne the owner to bring players in in January but it depends on who is available because this is not a good time to recruit."
