Barnsley midfielder Herbie Kane has been loaned to League One Oxford United until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old had not appeared in the Championship this season, coming off the bench in the EFL Cup at Bolton.

He joined from Liverpool a year ago for a reported £1.25 million although the Chronicle understands the Reds paid less than that.

Kane made just six league starts for the Reds and 18 substitute appearances.

The Reds now have just three senior central midfielders in Callum Styles - who has been used at left wing-back for most of this season - Josh Benson and Romal Palmer. Aapo Halme and Jasper Moon have played there but are centre-backs.

The Reds are looking for a central midfielder and left wing-back before the deadline at 11pm tomorrow.
