OLYMPIC swimmer James Kirton has been helping a local man train for his attempt to become the first to swim the coast of Yorkshire.

Barnsley-born swimmer James, 32, who represented Great Britain at the 2008 games in Beijing, contacted the Chronicle offering to train with Hoyland’s Gary Marshall after reading about his 100-plus miles swimming odyssey in the newspaper.

The Chronicle helped organise the special session which took place at Hoyland Leisure Centre on Monday, with the help of Barnsley Premier Leisure which let the aquatic duo use the pool.
