Matty Wolfe has signed a new two-year deal with Barnsley.

The 21-year-old has been at Oakwell for a decade and made his full debut in January after impressing on loan at the Reds' Danish sister club Esbjerg.

He has been a regular starter in central midfield over the last two months and has made 11 first team appearances in total.

Khaled El-Ahmad, Barnsley's chief executive, told the club website: “We are thrilled that Matty has chosen to extend his stay with us. He is a player with a lot of talent and potential, who is still continuing to develop within our first team set-up.

“He has had to work hard, be patient and overcome numerous injury setbacks during his time with us, but this is testament to his character and ability that he has gone onto establish himself as a regular in a matchday squad.

“The backroom staff here at Oakwell also deserve tremendous credit for his progression through the ranks after joining us as a 10-year-old, and we are all excited to see what the future holds for Matty.”
