Barnsley could be set for a busy final week of the transfer window as they look to 'get a couple of players in’ but are confident of keeping their star men.

The Reds are thought to be hoping to bring in a striker and centre-back before the deadline on Friday evening.

They are thought to be close to brining in Rotherham United forward Joshua Kayode, who is a long-standing target for the Reds. The Irish forward, 23, has played 24 games for the Millers, and was loaned out to MK Dons in League One last season. Rotherham are reportedly close to bringing in Sam Nombe from Exeter who was a target for Barnsley last week but they are no longer expecting to sign him.

Should they bring in a striker, it is possible that one of Barnsley's current front men could be loaned out with the obvious candidate being Oli Shaw who has not been in the last two matchday squads.

Meanwhile, Barnsley remain determined not to sell any of their first team players. There is a release clause of £2million in Callum Styles’ contract but no club is thought to have triggered it yet for the midfielder who was on the bench on Saturday.

Head coach Neill Collins said: “I am sure there will be more competition in our squad by the time we get to next weekend.

“We want to get a couple of players which I know the club is working on. There are no guarantees. Equally I hope we keep all our guys.

“Across the board, we’re looking at all positions.”

He added: “I will be glad to get the window shut so we know the group we have.”

Barnsley gained an impressive 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic on Saturday. Collins said: “We have a lot of work to do. It’s good to come in on Monday with a win under your belt. It makes everyone happier and moire inspired to get ready for the next one.”
