Barnsley continued their excellent away form with a 4-0 win at Cambridge United on Tuesday night.
Nicky Cadden and Mael de Gevigney puts the Reds 2-0 up at half-time then Max Watters and Jon Russell netted after the break.
The scoreline flattered the visitors as Liam Roberts was probably their best player in goal while there was an element of fortune to their second and third goals, but the other goals were excellent.
They are up to fourth in the table, and are unbeaten away from home this season with four successive wins while no League One sides has scored more on their travels.
Neill Collins made three changes from Saturday’s home loss to Blackpool. Russell, Cadden and Watters came in for Theo Chapman, Owen Dodgson and John McAtee.
The opener arrived on seven minutes when Corey O’Keeffe cut in from the right and crossed to his fellow wing-back Cadden who brought the ball down and smashed a low 12-yard shot into the bottom right corner.
Liam Roberts produced a superb double save to first, after a good run by Jed Brophy, keep out a low shot by Jack Lankester at full-stretch, then block the follow-up by John Gordon.
Danny Andrew’s in-swinging corner from the left appeared to clip the far post and go out. At the other end, Callum Styles’ low long-range strike went just wide.
The second goal saw a defender head Cadden’s right-wing corner onto the back of de Gevigney and loop into the net for a fortunate first Barnsley goal.
Roberts made another double save just before the break when he impressively denied Ahadme one-on-one after a scramble following a free-kick then easily caught George Thomas’ long-range strike.
Early in the second half, Roberts denied Brophy one-on-one after a fine run by ex-Red Paul Digby. Michael Morrison then headed a right-wing Thomas corner straight at Roberts at the back post.
Cambridge thought they should have had a penalty after Styles appeared to trip Gordon in the box.
But it was the Reds who netted when Watters was put clean through by Styles and, although his shot was straight at Will Mannion, the goalkeeper inexplicably let the ball creep under him.
Mannion made a decent save soon after, diving to his right to keep out Herbie Kane’s 20-yard curler.
Brophy should have pulled one back but his shot from the left of the area was again straight at Roberts.
Russell then curled in from the edge of then box after a pass by substitute Josh Benson following another good move.
Substitute McAtee should have made it 5-0 when played through one-on-one by Sam Cosgrove but he was denied by the goalkeeper.
