SAM Cosgrove has been backed to be ‘very important’ for Barnsley despite his limited gametime so far.

The 26-year-old striker is yet to score for the Reds after signing permanently on September 1 having left Birmingham City.

He has started just one league game so far, coming on in another five and has been brought on after the 80th minute in the last two games.

Head coach Neill Collins told the Chronicle: “We can only play so many strikers at once. Sam has come on and had a positive impact.

“He’s going to be very important for us. He just needs to keep working.”
