BARNSLEY Ladies moved further clear of the bottom two in the Championship North with a 34-20 home win over last-placed Worcester.

The Shaw Laners have won five and lost eight this season so are seventh out of nine in the second tier.

They are 21 points clear of the bottom two with three games left, but do not play this coming week.

Barnsley’s men lost 40-26 at Yorkshire Division Three leaders Northallerton.

The Shaw Laners are eighth, three points and three places clear of the bottom two, ahead of Saturday’s game at home to second-placed Halifax Vandals.

Wath stayed top of Yorkshire Division Two win a 36-21 win at Hemsworth.

They are five points clear of second-placed North Ribblesdale, who have a game in hand, and ten ahead of third-placed Yarnbury.

Wath were 10-0 down then 24-10 ahead before the gap closed to 24-21 but the visitors secured the victory.

The tries came from Luke Stead, a penalty try, Jack Whitlam, Jonty Morrisey, Joe Earp and Oli Stirling. Whitlam kicked two conversions.

Wath have five games left but do not play this weekend.
