Penistone Church made up some ground on the top six in the Northern Counties East Division One with a 4-0 win at Rossington Main on Saturday.

Danny Barlow gave Penistone the lead midway through the first half then Danny Howes’ first goal of the season doubled the lead just before the break. Lewis Dickinson and Oliver Fearon both netted their 15th goals of the season to complete the route in the second half.

The match was one of just three to go ahead on Saturday out of the 22-team Premier Division and Division One. The results leaves Church one point and one place below the play-off places.

Manager Ian Richards said: “I am confident we can finish in the play-off places and we will keep going until it is mathematically impossible. Ten of the 12 games we have left are against teams below us but we also have tough matches against the top teams Bottesford and Hemsworth.

"I have a target in my head of 80 points to get in the top six. That means we will need 27 from the next 12 games which is nine wins. We just need to be ruthless in attack and tight in defence like we were at Rossington.” Premier Division side Athersley Rec fell to a 3-0 defeat at home against Parkgate on Wednesday. Rec are seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce's star striker and assistant manager Lee Morris has left the Ducks to join their Evo-Stik Division One South rivals Goole Town. Aquaforce did not play this week with many matches across all the leagues being called off due to rain.

In the South Yorkshire Amateur League, Dale Dynamos destroyed bottom club Davy reserves 10-1 with Jordan Thompson the hat-trick hero. Netting two each were Ryan Pyne and Haydn Musgrave while the other scorers were Craig Waistnidge, Jason Finch and Jamie Gray.
