ENGLAND cricket captain Alastair Cook was introduced to a Barnsley girls’ cricket team at Lord’s just before they went on to be crowned English champions.

The team of 10 girls from years nine and ten at Horizon Community College came home victorious from the home of English cricket with the Lady Taverners Cup in a contest entered by more than 850 schools across the country.

The finals event at Lord’s pitted the best five teams from across the country against each other in a league format. Horizon Community College represented of the North of England, and found themselves as the only state school left in the competition.
