Patrick Schmidt and Aapo Halme will miss Barnsley's EFL Cup game against Nottingham Forest on September 5 after international call-ups for their countries' under 21s sides.
Striker Schmidt, who scored the winner against Forest in the Reds' final home game of last season, is in the squad for Austria under 21s' European Championship qualifiers at home to Albania next Friday then England the following Tuesday.
Finland under 21s, who Halme plays for, will also play qualifiers on the same dates at home to Romania and Ukraine respectively.
