A BARNSLEY busker has caught online attention after a video of him singing was watched more than 50,000 times in a matter of days.

Nick Evershed, from Lundwood, was shocked to find that a social media video of him singing ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables in the town centre was seen by thousands of people.

The 19-year-old, who has been singing since he was young, has been praised for his performance with many sharing the post - some even saying he should be signed to a record label.

Nick told the Chronicle: “I’ve been singing for so many years that I started to lose hope. Often you feel under-appreciated and you feel that no-one will notice.

“I woke up on Monday to find that someone had posted a clip of my singing onto Facebook and it had been liked hundreds of times.

“It was completely unexpected and the comments were so nice. They said they loved my voice which is great to hear.

“I’ve been busking in the town centre for years, and usually I’m met with dirty looks or heckling so it’s really nice to be appreciated.”

Nick hopes the video will help him come closer to his dream of producing his own music in the future.

“I love music - I used to busk with my violin years ago until I switched to singing which has gone down well I hope.

“Busking is definitely hard work and I’m shattered whenever I finish. But hopefully people enjoy it and it helps get my voice heard.

“I’m thankful to everyone who has seen my video and commented nice things. It makes it all worthwhile.”
